This is a 4.5 star game. -1 star for all the quirky controller mechanics. Aside from that, it's really fun, I like the ambience, the graphics are great for 8-bit. I think if you could work out the bugs, you'd have a real winner here. Any plans to maybe make an emulator-target so folks could load it up on Raspberry Pi/RetroPi?

RitchieRitual responds:

Thanks for the feedback, I'm currently still working on it, making changes / improvements etc. The complete / finished version will be a .exe file if that is what you're asking?

5 stars, but I docked you a half star because the controls are really finicky. I love the old NES feel this has. Very difficult game play, but not so much that it discourages you from playing. Graphics are pretty cool but the music is top-notch. I also docked half a star because of the crappy SFX when you grab a person. Come on man.... you put all that effort into the music to have shitty SFX? I dunno, maybe that was the intent.

I have a few questions. What is the purpose of the little glowing orb that drops when you swing the upgraded blade? And what is the purpose of the "ghost orb stance" when you hold shift and up? I didn't see what it was supposed to do.

RayBeckham responds:

You get souls from killing people with the scythe. Or do you mean the little purple burny flames that burn on the ground? Just for fun.

Every time you press the special key you do a random little animation. It's just for fun too.

I really liked this. And it's 4.5 stars. But I docked you a star because the menu interaction and the golden star overlays were annoying as hell. Everything took way too long to clear the screen so that you could get back to playing. I haven't played No Man's Sky so if this was a parody to the play mechanics of that game, it was completely lost on me.

Skudge responds:

It's all intentional, yeah. Thanks for the review!

I like this. Would be great if you added keyboard support for desktop players.

3cr responds:

I'll add this to the next version

Great little game. I think some of the play mechanics could be improved. But aside from that, I think this was really fun for the 5-10 minutes I put into playing it. I'd like to see a more expansive game on a mobile platform. That'd be something I would pay for.

krajzega responds:

I'd love to hear which mechanics you'd like improved and how :). Can't ever have enough feedback to learn from.

As a prototype goes, this is pretty subpar. But the concept is pretty cool though. Reminds me of Comix Zone for the Sega Genesis. I'm curious what you plan for actual character interaction.

It'd be nice to use the keyboard for this. Other than that, I love this game. Good job.

Really solid game with simple game play mechanics. Curious, what, if any framework did you use to make this?

Vogd3 responds:

Box2d for phisics. Thank you!

The default keyboard controls are wacky... I know you can change them but trying to configure it for 2p on the same but still. I'd say invest some time in an AI to play as a single player game.

fun for a few minutes. Major issue I have is that sometimes you charge up a shot and the meter doesn't reflect that. Then upon releasing the button, you get an extra slow shot and no way to shoot anymore until it's cleared the screen.

scheletro responds:

I will check bugs

In the game yo just can send a fireball at once ;)
