This was a good proof of concept. I think it would be great as a mobile game with tap-to-navigate controls. I found the keyboard navigation a little tiresome given the lack of interactivity. I'd also say if you were to expand on this, that you'd want to add more user experiences to this: giving them something else to control. Weapons or at least a detail puzzle UI during challenges. Just my 2ยข.

I hope to add a few more layers of interactivity in the next build. We had to skip many features because of the jam timeline, but moving forward, richer mechanics and environments is the top priority. Thanks for playing and your feedback.

This is one of the better flash games I've seen in years. It is fairly easy to play, fun to play and it hints of being influenced by one of my all-time favorite arcade games, Xenophobe. Good job sir/madam, good job.

SeethingSwarm responds:

Really glad you like it! I've actually never played Xenophobe before. I just watched a couple of gameplay videos of it and it looks insane! :D Definitely something I could have enjoyed a few years back if I had the chance to play it. Anyway, thanks for the nice score and the comments :)

There are a few things I think would make this soooo much more fun. Reload periods for both the player and the AI. The weapons dropping/pick up is wonky.... sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Why does the character lose his weapon after he kills all the enemies on the floor? A few improvements would go a long way in making this average game a really great game. The look and feel are great.

GraveDangerGames responds:

Hi!
About the reload it would be fair, but I didn't think we needed that aditional difficulty... and the weapon drop is for two reasons:
1 - I liked the idea of starting every level empty handed. It's so much more baddass :)
2 - There's nothing left to do in the level! You enjoy shooting at walls? What have they ever done to you?
Thanks for your comments :)

This was great. The game itself was a 3.5 starts, but I added another star for the fact you did a good job on the music and another half star for the fact that this was done in a considerably short time frame for the game jam.

What, if any, game frameworks/tools did you use? Flixel? Ash Entity Engine? Anything?

catamin responds:

Thanks a lot! :) The game is written on Haxe + OpenFL (it looks a lot like AS3). I used my own "entity framework" (it contains only three classes really), everything else (particles, frame animation, collisions) was written during jam. I tried Ash earlier, but I found it quite unhandy, it's too strict for me.

Fun, fast, easy. My biggest beef with it is that there seems to be a memory leak somewhere when you die. After you die a few times the game starts to grind to a halt. My fan on my laptop starts spinning up too.

HenrikSahlin responds:

Hmm I'll look into it and try to solve it if I can. Thanks!

It was fun, challenging and kept my interest to the end. I wasn't at all interested in the story but then again I'm impatient. Good job folks.

TwinBlazar responds:

Thank you. :)
